Sopore, Jul 16 (KNO): In a heartening display of communal harmony, residents of Sopore including Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus came together to perform the last rites of a non-local Hindu youth, who died under mysterious circumstances in the town. Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the deceased, Sumit Deb, a native of Dimapur in Nagaland, had been working as a domestic help in Mazhbugh area of Sopore. His body was found on July 15, triggering inquest proceedings under the relevant section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS). The deceased Sumit had been working under M/S Saalim Placement Services and was deployed at the residence of Haji Ghulam Nabi Sheikh in Alsafa Colony, Mazhbugh. Following his death, a post-mortem was conducted at Sub District Hospital Sopore. It is noteworthy that the Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore had granted permission for the cremation after a formal application was submitted by Ajeet Deb, cousin of the deceased. Ajeet, currently employed in Srinagar, was authorized by the family to receive the body. The ceremony, performed at Shamshan Ghat Panzalla marked by the presence of people from all faiths, concluded not just with rituals, but with a prayer—not only for the deceased, but for Kashmir itself. “We pray for peace,” the Pandit said. “Kashmir is a Reashvaer. May its lost glory return, so the next generation can live without fear.” The process was closely monitored by Tehsildar Rohama, Rafiabad and police team of PS Panzalla, as per the ADC’s directive—(KNO)
